A Compendium of
Learning and Teaching Strategies for College
Giving a Formal Presentation In Class
There are overlaps between writing strategies and strategies for doing a class presentation. For example, you can use an introduction, body of presentation, and conclusion format. Some other things to consider are:
*know the purpose of your talk (perhaps as explained in the course syllabus)
* know your audience (don't use words that your audience members won't understand
unless you plan to define those words.
* use visual aids (e.g. powerpoint slides) and/or handouts.
* if questions from the audience are allowed, be prepared for those questions.
* practice your presentation beforehand.
* dress appropriately, use good posture and make eye contact with your audience.
* be enthusiastic
